Volume 11 - TV on DVD

Who knew this market would take off like this. A long time ago, the odd show would release a “best of” video with 3 or 4 of the very best episodes of a show or perhaps just the best clips from a long running series. Now the whole T.V on DVD thing has gotten out of hand. It has become so stupid now every show has a DVD set out. Should there not be at least a prerequisite that a show be at least moderately good before a complete DVD box set is released? I admit that I have a few DVD sets for a few shows; Family Guy, The Kids in the Hall, and Arrested Development. These are simply hilarious shows that can be watched again and again but come on! ‘Who’s the Boss’? ‘Punky Brewster’? Who is buying this garbage? Does anyone out there need every episode of ‘ALF’? Does anyone out there actually have any desire to ever see another minute of ‘The Nanny’ never mind watching a complete season? If so, what exactly is wrong with you? You soulless twit! If you have bought any of these then you need to click your mouse on the ‘X’ on the top right corner of your computer screen because you make me sick. And what about the jaggoffs that buy shows like “Will & Grace”? Listen, if you enjoy lame TV shows then that’s your problem but the show is still showing new episodes and also constantly shows repeats. You officially have too much money. Are you telling me that someone out there is sitting around saying “you know what I feel like doing? I would like to watch episode 9 from season 3 of Will & Grace right now, because I am truly a waste of skin and my life is desperately sad.” And the Simpsons? No, I am not going to knock the Simpsons. It is a great show, perhaps one of the best ever. However, if you have cable then you can find approximately seven episodes of the Simpsons every day? Is that not enough for you? Give some of your extra money to a charity!

Some people actually want to buy a full season of “The Simple Life” to have in their home. These people should all buy guns instead and do Kurt Cobain impressions with the rifle in one hand and their copy of The Simple Life in the other. For crying out loud, The Apprentice was a big DVD release. Yes, now you can watch an entire of season of the Apprentice over again. However I cannot see why you would want to. People, it was a FUCKING GAME SHOW! You already know who won, how could it possibly be interesting a second time through? Shit sake, it was not even interesting the first time through, you think all of a sudden on a second viewing you will catch those entertaining moments you missed the first time. No, you didn’t miss those moments, they were never there.

Basically, for the right show I can see a DVD set being a good release. But there has to be somewhere to draw the line. It’s just fucking ridiculous. What is the world coming to when half the New Releases at your favorite video store are bad TV shows? If you told me 10 years ago that this would be the case I would laugh in your face and call you a moron. Then I would spit in your face and kick you in the stomach for wasting my time with such a stupid comment. But it is actually true now. Not every shitty show ever made needs to be released on DVD. Plain and simple. Remember the old days when we would go to the video store and rent and buy those 90 minute feature things called “MOVIES”?

That’s all for now, as I slip in episode 12 of “Full House” Season 3 (which in my opinion was clearly the best season of them all...Dave Couliers character really came into his own that year)
